  it's interesting how with believing friends and family you can openly doubt the bible.

  you can doubt the flood and talk about it.

  you can doubt the old testament.

  This is 100% true. Just before I stepped down as an elder, I expressed my doubts to the PO about god, at least to the extent that he actually cares, and perhaps even whether he exists at all. The PO saw me as a broken man, struggling with my "issues" and was entirely sympathetic. I stepped down, and this was never pursued any further.

  What is amazing ,though, is that even after I began seriously doubting god and the bible, I still hung on to the idea of the society being the only true religion!

  I think this speaks volumes as to how this religion short-circuits reasoning skills, destroys critical thinking, and deeply programs its members with bullshit. Truly amazing.

  Lot's of talk on the July Watchtower?

  so i've heard lots of talk from within about the 'new light' in this watchtower...i'm yet to look at it in any detail.

  i'm kind of surprised actually...i first heard about it here before it was even available but close to the time it did come out people started bringing it up - even our co.. some say things like "have you heard about this?

  " or "big changes," or "allot of things they said we believed, i didn't realize,"(lots of that) or "brain-overload" or " too much information, but i've never felt more pumped up" or "it's soo exciting to see jehovah's spirit lead his organization..." or "it requires time to sink in, but it's a good feeling!

  Nothing, so far.

  I printed the mag out and told my wife to read it before I discuss anything about it with her. So far, she hasn't read it, and I think she doesn't want to because she's afraid she will come to the realization that it really is all just bullshit. It's almost like she thinks its apostate literature or something!

  Bibles out of stock at Bethel?

  our congregation is rationing regular bibles like they're gold bars.

  i was told that bethel is out of stock!

  anyone else hear about this?

  Evidently, this has become a subject of speculation in "Bethel" congregations in and around NY.

  It was joked that perhaps they are no bibles because "we're not using them anymore" (as if they ever really did).

  The talk is that a "New" New World Translation is coming.

  My wife commented, Why would you need a new bible? <= Good question!

  So, anyone else hear anything new on this?

  okay we've all beat our chest, lamented and throttled the dead horse of aawa.. time to move on!.

  i suggest those of us on j-w.n who care about creating something the right way take the trouble to get the framework going.. let's do the grunt work and get the nattering, debates, naming and organizing already pre-approved so that "others" who have the talent, ability, motivation and resources can move in and turn the key!.

  because it was not done before.. there is more wisdom on this discussion board in our vast numbers than there could possibly be in a virtual boardroom with 8 people brain-storming.. that isn't an insult--it is just a statistical fact!.

  Actually, their "scientific" explanation sounds a LOT like evolution. Probably because that's what it is!

  really, this should be easy if you have the cd rom (i don't).. somewhere in the societies publications, they try to denigrate the reliability of an ancient tablet by citing a source which shows big gaps in the translation (lots of [] and .

  's) evidently because this tablet was so beat up and broken, half the words are missing, thus secular historical records are worthless, trust the bible.. if i remember this correctly, the actual source of the quote goes on to say something to the effect of 'fortunately the obverse side of the tablet contains all the information in tact' - a fact the wt conveniently leaves out.. i had thought this quote was either from insight or the all scripture book, but i can't find it in either.

  anyone know what publication this is from?

  ive just been reviewing my timeline of the divided jewish monarchy and the neo-babylonian period.

  i decided to check for correlations of egyptian and assyrian rulers mentioned in the bible that i had not previously considered at all (much less tried to make fit a particular year).

  i was happy (though unsurprised) that no adjustments were required.. pharaoh tirhakah (taharqa) (2ki 19:8, 9; isa 37:8, 9) insight (volume 2, page 1109) claims the years assigned to him by historians must be wrong.

  Public Apology Nathan Natas

  i'd like to offer a public apology to nathan natas for making a wrong decision when i deleted him.. i allowed a combination of previous issues we'd had and input from other forum members to bias my decision which lead me to what i now, in hindsight, believe to have been a mistake.. whether you want to come back and post here or not i wanted to at least say sorry and will reactivate your account..
